every kitchen is bespoke.

We build our kitchens from a mix of sustainable solid wood, carbon negative, non-toxic agricultural bi-product panels and low/no VOC water based paints. There are no nasties in our kitchens, protecting both you and the earth.

What are ABP Boards?

Agricultural Bi-Product boards; a more sustainable and low energy alternative to MDF, OSB, or plywood. This means they are not made from wood but instead straw! A natural waste product from cereal crop production (such as wheat). Not only this, the boards are bonded together with the natural ‘glue’ that binds the cellulose fibers of the plant itself together and only a small amount of resin additive which doesn’t contain any added formaldehyde or other VOCs.

Are ABP boards and the HARBOUR ECO-CARCASS durable and strong enough?

These agricultural bi-product based boards have the same strength properties, stronger screw pull and superior fire resilience properties of MDF, and actually superior moisture resistance properties therefore much better suited for wet environments such as kitchens.

To further ensure our products stand the test of time, we take a number of measures:

  • All ABP boards are sealed/painted and edged

  • Our HARBOUR ECO-CARCASSES are a solid box with 5 sides of 18mm board connected securely along all edges. This includes a solid top and back (most carcasses have an open top and very thin backing and would not be connected on all edges)

  • On our Shaker range, everything is edged with solid wood

What is an in-frame kitchen?

An in-frame kitchen is a reference to the solid wood surround that the door sits within. Our Shaker kitchens are all in-frame kitchens but you can also have a flat doors in-frame.

What is a solid wood kitchen?

A ‘solid wood kitchen’ is a kitchen that has solid wood used within. Our Shaker kitchens are considered a solid wood kitchen as our frames, rail & styles, drawer fronts and skirting are all solid wood.

How do your Shaker kitchens differ from famous and expensive kitchens, such as DEVOL and Smallbone of Devices?

They use mdf and OSB for their kitchens where we would use our ABP boards, therefore the difference would be that ours are sustainable, non-toxic, stronger and better suited for wet environments. And of course ours are much economical!
